Opp wins Babe Ruth district

The Opp 13-year-old and 15-year-old Babe Ruth teams won the district tournament in Andalusia last weekend.

The 15-year-old team beat Covington County 7-2 on Saturday and 15-7 on Sunday for the championship. The 13-year-old Opp team swept Covington County, winning 13-4 on Friday and 13-4 on Saturday.

In other action, Andalusia lost to Covington County 9-3 on Friday night and 10-3 on Saturday.

Opp 15, Covington County 7

Opp scored 13 runs in the fourth inning to help them earn the championship Sunday in the finals of the district tournament.

In the fourth inning, Thomas Weed, Hunter Roeser (two runs), Trey Short (three runs), Cody Chatham, Jerod Marler, T.J. Bess, Richie Willis and T.J. Register all scored for their team.

Covington County added five in the fourth and one run in the sixth to finish the game.

Opp scored one run in the sixth.

Opp 7, Covington County 2

Opp’s Dane Buckelew, Kyle Marshall and Willis scored one run apiece in the third inning on the way to a five-run win over Covington County Saturday afternoon.

Opp added two runs in the fourth inning before Covington County got on the board, scoring its only runs in the sixth and seventh innings.

In the sixth inning, Opp scored its last two runs on two hits and one walk.

Covington County 9, Andalusia 3

Covington County’s Zack Lunsford had two hits, three RBIs and scored two runs to help his team to a six-run win over Andalusia Friday night.

Andalusia took an early 1-0 lead over Covington County in the first inning. Covington County scored two runs in the first inning before adding one run in the second to make it 3-1.

Covington County’s Lunsford scored one run in the third; Sid Newby, Colter Herrington, Andrew Burleson and Lunsford scored in the fourth inning and Burleson added a second run in the sixth to close the win out.

Andalusia scored its last two runs in the seventh.

Covington County 10, Andalusia 3

Covington County scored five runs in the seventh inning to knock Andalusia out of the district tournament on Saturday.

Covington County scored one run in the first, two in the second, two in the fifth and five in the seventh to get the win.

Andalusia scored three in the sixth.

Ethan Davis and Hayden Nobles each scored two runs apiece and Russell Moseley scored three runs to help lead Opp to a district championship win on Saturday.

Davis, Moseley, Nobles, Scotty Parrish and Dakota King all scored in the first inning.

Covington County’s Taylor Messick added one run in the first.

In the second, Davis, Moseley and Nobles all added runs to take an 8-1 lead over Covington County.

Opp added three runs in the fifth, and one run apiece in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the title.

Covington County had a short rally in the fourth inning when the team scored three runs on six hits and one walk.

Opp scored six runs in the second inning to pull away from Covington County on Friday night and secure the win.

Covington County scored one run in the first and second inning.

Covington County added one run in the third and fourth innings before Opp scored three in the fourth and four in the fifth.
