Rutha Shakespeare

Rutha Mae Shakespeare, 83, of Andalusia, passed away peacefully on Thurs., June 25, 2009, at the Andalusia Manor following a long battle of dialysis treatments.
Ms. Shakespeare was born Oct. 10, 1925, in Covington County to the late Jake and Berthula Shakespeare Sr., being the youngest of eight children. She retired from the Alatex Inc. She loved traveling, singing, crossword puzzles and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
She leaves to cherish her memories, her son, Robert Shakespeare of Andalusia; daughter, Ruby (Charles) Fleming of Mansfield, Ohio; very special niece she considered as her daughter, Dorothy Burnette of Andalusia; a special family friend, Magnolia Dice of Brewton; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two cousins, J.D. Shakespeare of Andalusia; Bertha Woodson of Columbia, Ga.; two sisters-in-law, Virginia Shakespeare and Minnie Ola Shakespeare of Andalusia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Bettye Youngblood, son-in-law the Rev. Frank Youngblood; two sisters, Bertha Burnette and Elizabeth Johnson; five brothers, Henry, Abraham, Isaac, Amos, R. and Jake Jr.; three sisters-in-law, Sibby, Lois and Essie Shakespeare; cousins, John D. Shakespeare, Lucille Brown, Josephine Jordan, and Georgia Persons; three nephews, Amos Jr., Charles, and Abra D. Shakespeare; great nephew Stanley Shakespeare who tried out for the Cleveland Browns Football Team in Cleveland, Ohio; two nieces, Marcella Johnson and Shontell Burnette.
Services will be Thurs., July 2, 2009, at First Baptist Church, 540 Whatley St., Andalusia. Calling hour will be noon. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., with Pastor Johnny Davis in charge of services and Bishop Cliff Jones, Eulogist of Sandusky, Ohio, Kirks Funeral Chapel directing.
