Five people are set to interview today for the position of county emergency management agency director.

The position, which was announced for applications last month, initially garnered 12 applicants from all over Alabama and northwest Florida — including applications from the county’s former EMA director Susan Carpenter and former Covington Center Arena manager Tony Wells.

Interviews are scheduled as follows:

from 1:30 p.m. until 2 p.m. — Tony Wells, Andalusia.

from 2 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. — Kiep Johnson, Andalusia.

from 2:30 p.m. until 3 p.m. — Susan Carpenter, Andalusia.

from 3 p.m. until 3:30 p.m. — break.

from 3:30 p.m. until 4 p.m. — Shirley Sandy, Laurel Hill, Fla.

from 4 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. — Pam Brammer, Dothan.

The interviews are open to the public and will be held in the county administration building.

The county was required to hire an EMA director after the commission voted in May to end a nine-year agreement combining the position of EMA and E-911 director. The split, which was termed a “cost saving measure,” is estimated to save the county $16,000 to $24,000 annually.

Kristy Stamnes, the most recent EMA/E-911 director, was asked to chose between the two entities and was hired fulltime by the E-911 board in May.

Pay for the EMA director position is listed as “negotiable based on qualifications;” however, the commission had offered the position to Stamnes at $36,700 plus benefits.

Stamnes will continue to serve in her dual role until a permanent EMA director is hired.

It is not known when the commission will make its final hiring decision.
