Faith Powers

Faith Fortune Powers went to be with the Lord on June 30, 2009, after a brief battle with cancer.
Faith grew up in Winter Park, Fla., after which she lived in the Fort Walton Beach, Fla., area for more than 50 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 47 years, Johnny Fortune of Shalimar, Fla. She is survived by their children and their spouses, Jennifer Fortune and Thomas Nalovic of Niceville, Fla.; Brenda and Jerry Sansom of Gulf Breeze, Fla.; Mark Fortune of Shalimar, Fla.; and Scott and Angie Fortune of Laurel Hill, Fla.; 11 grandchildren; and a friend of the family, Kasia McWaters. She is also survived by her second husband, John Powers of Andalusia.
Faith met her husband, Johnny Fortune, in the Florida State University circus while they attended school. Faith was a court reporter for 10 years and then assisted Johnny in his legal practice. They enjoyed working their ranch and raising livestock in Laurel Hill, Fla.
Faith was blessed to have two wonderful men who love her. After she lost her first husband, she married John Powers. Faith’s granddaughter was instrumental in setting them up on a blind date.
She and John enjoyed traveling the world together.
A funeral service was held at Family of Faith Community Church, 428 Racetrack Road, Fort Walton Beach, at 9 a.m. Mon., July 6, with Faith’s brother-in-law, the Rev. Jerry Fortune, officiating.
Pallbearers were Jerry Sansom, son-in-law; Jay Gontarek, dear friend; John David Powers, son-in-law; Terry Hall, brother-in-law; and Mark and Scott Fortune. Honorable pallbearers will be Frank Fisher, Jackie Fortune, Carroll Butler and Bob Schoonmaker.
A graveside service was held at Old Ebenezer Cemetery in Laurel Hill immediately following the service.
