Andalusia’s Burke’s Outlet will soon have a new home in the old Food World building.

Bill Webster of Burke’s Outlet real estate division said while specific dates for the move have not been set, it is definitely in the works.

“The lease has been signed, and the Andalusia Burke’s is going to get a lot bigger soon,” Webster said. “Alabama has always been a strong state for us, and the store in Andalusia has been well received. I think this new store is really going to impress people though.”

Webster said the store currently occupies an 8,800 square-foot storefront next to Winn-Dixie. The new location will feature 27,000 square feet of floor space and give customers “quite a change” from what they are currently used to, he said.

“Shoppers can expect a ramped up departments with expansions in shoes, kids, linens, home items, juniors, young men, plus-sizes — just about everything inside the store,” he said. “The layout will be new with wide shopping aisles and our new décor scheme.”

It is estimated the move will create more than 15 new jobs. Renovation work is expected be start in the near future, he said.

Burke’s Outlet currently operates in 11 states. There are 30 stores in Alabama, Webster said. Plans are currently under way for a new store in Fort Payne and expansions are planned in several other Alabama locations, he said.

Burke’s future location in Andalusia has been vacant since the Birmingham-based Food World, owned by Bruno’s Supermarket, closed.
