Pleasant Home’s Erin Byrd and Kinston’s Bethany Holley will travel with their 18-and-under Crushers softball team to play in the national tournament this weekend in Las Vegas, Nev.

For the past three summers, Byrd and Holley have donned the same jersey to play with the travel team that is based out of Dothan.

They are joined by teammates from Dothan, Northview, Eufaula, Headland, Enterprise and Walton High School (Defuniak Springs, Fla.).

Mon., July 27, the team will begin the tournament in pool play, playing one game on Monday and Tuesday and then playing in a double-elimination format on Wednesday.

Last weekend, the Crushers went 4-1 in a tournament in Dothan with 18 other travel teams.

Byrd, who catches for the team, joined the Crushers three summers ago and recently signed to play softball at Faulkner University. Holley is one of the team’s pitchers.

“Bethany throws several different pitches and does a great job of keeping hitters off-balance,” Byrd said.

Holley has been a member of the travel team for the past five years and will be a senior at Kinston High School this fall.
