I completely agree with Mayor Johnson’s idea of building a memorial at the Alatex property.

But let’s not forget a way to honor the memory of Mayor John G. Scherff, who set up the Alatex plant. He was the salvation of the economy and welfare of this area.

There is no way to measure the contribution of Alatex — the people employed, the wages and sales taxes paid, the people who were fed. It goes off the scale.
