No rest for the weary

The Pleasant Home Eagles spent Monday and Tuesday at Blue Lake Methodist Camp to build as a team to prepare for the start of practice for the fall football season. In between nights at the camp, the team participated in two-a-day practices.

Starting today, intensity and blocking are two of many things the team will work on to get ready for their first game.

“We finished two-a-days (Tuesday),” Pleasant Home coach Robert Bradford said. “Right now at practice, the major focus is of course special teams. That’s what we really want to get into, as well as trying to work the passing game. We’ve been doing a lot of 7-on-7 drills too to get them used to the heat.”

The Eagles will have their first day of practice in pads on Thursday and Bradford said that is a make or break time for the team.

“Thursday, we’ll start to concentrate more on intensity and blocking and talking about just really getting after it,” he said.

Bradford said the August heat is not an issue for the team because they came to practice prepared for it.

“The biggest thing we do is we get used to it all summer long,” Bradford said. “We really do a lot of running and conditioning to make sure it’s not a culture shock for them. Right now, we’re ready to go.”

The Eagles will be practicing each day from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m.
