Mrs. Helen June Douglas, 74, of Andalusia, died Wed., Aug. 19, 2009, at her residence.
Private memorial services are being held by the family and directed by Keahey Funeral Home.
Mrs. Douglas’ final request was for her body to be donated to the State of Alabama’s Anatomical Board for the study of scleroderma, a disease she suffered with most of her adult life. Little is available to patients who suffer at the mercy of this disease, and Mrs. Douglas hoped the study would provide new knowledge for other people. She desired this to be her legacy.
She is survived by her sons, Steven Causey of Jackson and Jeff Causey of Conyers, Ga.; daughters, Kay Deland of Grovehill, Sandra Tew of Andalusia and Linda Lewis of Grovehill; brother, Jack Higgens of North Carolina; sisters, Peggy Hall of Sebastian, Fla., and Judy Caudle of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. George C. Douglas; a son, Bobby Causey; and her parents, Jack Harold Higgens and Annie Pearl Lee Higgins and two brothers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation or N.O.R.D.
