Turnovers help Elba take Opp

Turnovers proved costly for Opp’s Bobcats in their game at Elba Friday night, where they were shut out by the Tigers, 14-0.

The Bobcats (0-1) lost three fumbles, and were intercepted four times, including one that resulted in an Elba score.

The Tigers (1-0) scored on a 12-yard run by sophomore quarterback Michael Lindsey in the second quarter, and again in the fourth when they returned an interception and scored on a 23-yard run. Richard Cooks kicked both extra points.

The Bobcats rushed 18 times for 134 yards, and gained 79 yards in the air in 6-of-13 passing attempts for a total of 213 yards. They had nine first downs. They averaged 33 yards on three punts.

Elba rushed 41 times for 148 yards and completed 4 of 9 passes for 65 yards and were intercepted only once. The Tigers had 15 first downs. They averaged 38 yards on punts, were penalized twice, and lost only one of three fumbles.

Opp is at home against Holtville next week.
