Gladys Sturgis

Mrs. Gladys Johns Sturgis, 90, of Andalusia, died Mon., Sept. 14, 2009.
She was born April 6, 1919, to Herbert H. Jones and Myra Lee Blair Jones in Red Level. Gladys was first married to Ely Edward Johns. Her only child, Billy Joe Johns, was born to this union.
She was the widow of her second husband, Arthur Clinton “Buddy” Sturgis of Andalusia. Both Mr. and Mrs. Sturgis were long time members of West End Methodist Church in Andalusia.
Mrs. Sturgis worked in retail and retired as the store manager of Stanton’s Department Store.
She is survived by her son, Billy, and his wife, Ruth Carnley Johns of Pensacola, Fla.; three grandchildren, Nicole Johns Campanella and her husband, Phil Campanella Sr. Chief, U.S.C.G., Suffolk, Va., and California, Ilaina Johns of Pensacola, Fla., and Nick Johns of Crestview, Fla.; three great-granddaughters, Emily and Caitlin Campanella and Marissa Johns; her sister, Eula Grey Potts of Andalusia; her niece, Myra Potts Wamble of Headland; and also friends, Louise Hemby, Bobbie Willis and Tommy Rowell.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by her sister, Opal Jones Barranco, and brother-in-law, Sam Barranco, of Jackson, Miss.; her sister, Audie Jones Turner of Chicago, Ill.; her brother-in-law, James Braxton Potts, and a nephew, Gerald Potts, both of Andalusia.
Funeral services will be today at 2 p.m. from Foreman Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Fairmount Baptist Church Cemetery in Red Level.
