Straughn’s region play continues this week as the Tigers travel to Daphne to take on Bayside Academy.

Last week, the Tigers defeated Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Straughn’s first home game, 35-10.

In that game, Straughn (2-1, 2-0 in Class 3A, Region 1) scored five of its touchdowns on the ground — Josh Dewrell had three and Shawn O’Neal and Kaleb Greene each scored one. Straughn also out-gained Cottage Hill on offense, 393 yards to 173 yards.

Later in the game, Cottage Hill didn’t score its first offensive touchdown until the fourth quarter, and the Tigers sacked quarterback Daulton Jackson five times.

Each of Straughn’s first two touchdown drives began with the Tigers recovering a fumble.

The Bayside Academy Admirals are 1-1 in the region, having lost to T.R. Miller last week, 28-24. On Sept. 4, the Admirals got their first region win, defeating Calhoun, 52-6.

Last week, Dewrell finished with 11 carries for 117 yards and three touchdowns, and was 2-of-6 for 77 passing yards.

Kickoff in Daphne is at 7 p.m.
