Mrs. Mary Alice Byrd, a resident of 316 Smith St., Andalusia, was born July 27, 1942, to the late Ms. Juanita McGoley and Mr. James Jackson. She departed this life on Sept. 20, 2009, at her residence.
She accepted Christ at an early age and united with the First Baptist Church on Whatley Street in Andalusia. Upon marriage, she moved her membership to Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church in Gantt.
She received her education from Covington County Training School in Andalusia. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Morton Chapter Number 258.
She leaves to cherish her precious memories a loving son, Daniel Boyd of Andalusia; three brothers, Sylvester (Margaret) Sinkfield Jr. of Tuscaloosa, Samuel LaMar (Sharon) Sinkfield of Atlanta, Ga., and Charles James (Betty) Jackson; two stepsons, Willie James (Leslyn) Byrd Jr. of Gantt, and Roosevelt Byrd of Andalusia; three special nieces, Alexis Sinkfield, Jessica Sinkfield and Sania Sinkfield; a special nephew, Justin “J.D.” McClain; three brothers-in-law, James (Dawn) Byrd of Lockport, N.Y., the Rev. Robert (Christine) Byrd of Columbia, S.C., and Oliver Craig Byrd of Philadelphia, Pa.; four sisters-in-law, Marolene (Ralph) Roberts of Lake Wales, Fla., Janet Byrd Speer of Montgomery, Monica (CB) Landrum of Dothan and Ollie Jean Byrd of Auburn-dale, Fla.; special friend and caregiver, Kim Dorsey (thanks for being there); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be today, Sat., Sept. 26, at 11 a.m. at the First Baptist Church on Whatley Street with the Rev. Willie J. Blue officiating. Kirk’s Funeral Chapel is in charge of the services.
