Andalusia Middle School’s Michael McCalman had 92 yards rushing and 46 yards passing while having a broken right index finger to help lead his team to an 8-0 victory over Opp Middle School last Thursday night in Andalusia.

“I’ve been here 10 years and have had 10 winning seasons and (McCalman) is making decisions only a high school quarterback could make,” Andalusia coach Tommy Wright said. “He has a bright future ahead of him.”

Andalusia (3-1) scored its only touchdown in the first quarter with 6:30 on the clock when Ross Graham ran the ball into the end zone from 15 yards out. The two-point conversion attempt was good and brought in by Jayden Ellison.

“We had great leadership by the defense (Thursday night),” Wright said.

Andalusia will finish its seventh grade team’s season on Thursday night in Opp.

T.R. Miller 28, Straughn 8

T.R. Miller scored three touchdowns in the first half Thursday night to claim a win over Straughn.

Miller scored on its first possession to make it 8-0 early.

Straughn’s Taylor Messick connected with Johnny Owens on a 20-yard pass to bring the score to within two points. The Tigers evened the game up with a successful two-point conversion.

The Tigers tried an onside kick, but the ball went out of bounds and T.R. Miller got the ball and drove it down the field to quickly make it 14-8.

After scoring another touchdown, T.R. Miller managed to score a safety at the 1-yard line to make it 22-8 at intermission. T.R. Miller scored again in the third quarter.

“We just made a few mistakes on special teams and a couple of penalties hurt us as well,” Straughn coach Benjie Kinsaul said. “That was the big difference. Miller has a good football team. They came well prepared and they were the better team.”

Straughn will host Opp on Thursday night. Kickoff is at 5:30 p.m.
