Andalusia’s Lady Bulldogs earned the right to host the Class 4A, Area 3 volleyball tournament Tuesday after sweeping Clarke County on the road, 3-0.

They won 25-19, 25-12, 25-18.

Andalusia coach Angie Grimes said Clarke County posed a threat in the first game, but her team bounced back and recovered.

“I was disappointed in that first game,” she said. “We were up 14-3 and they came back and scored some unanswered points.

“That’s something we’ve got to work on,” she said. “We just lost focus for a little while, but they corrected themselves.”

Grimes said that Wednesday at practice, she reminded her team about staying focused.

“We talked about not letting hit happen again,” Grimes said.

Earlier this week, the Lady Bulldogs traveled to Geneva, where they won in a tri-match, 25-19, 25-16.

Today, Andalusia will travel to Greenville to play the Lady Tigers.

This Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs will be in Dothan in the Providence Christian School tournament in pool play.

Andalusia is in Pool B with Holy Spirit, Parkway Christian and Straughn.

Pool A consists of Providence Christian, Houston Academy, Jefferson Christian and Zion Chapel.

The Lady Bulldogs start play at 8:30 a.m. against Straughn.

Straughn 3, Red Level 0

Straughn traveled to Red Level Tuesday night and won in three games, 25-16, 25-12, 25-19.

Straughn’s Tori Bracewell had nine service points and four kills; libero Katie Beck had five service points and four digs; Kayla Messer had 11 service points, six digs and six kills; Lakin Thornton had 10 service points, six assists, two digs and two kills; Katie Hardage had seven service points; and Holley McGlaun had 14 service points and five assists.

“The girls are having to work with a lot of adjustments,” Straughn coach Lori Kinsaul said. “We’ve lost a few people to sickness right now.”

Red Level coach Heather Walden said that, despite the loss, her team is “improving.”

“They played good,” she said. “They’re improving a lot. They’re playing hard and trying to do better.”

Red Level will be in a tri-match today with Mobile Christian and Flomaton in Mobile and Straughn will travel to play Pike County in Brundidge.

Pleasant Home 3, Laurel Hill (Fla.) 0

Pleasant Home coach Jerry Davis said the 3-0 win against Laurel Hill Tuesday was a significant one for his team.

“That was the first time we’ve won in three games,” Davis said. “We beat somebody that took us to the wire the last time. We played a lot of kids (Tuesday). We’re still not 100 percent, but we had a lot of girls that took up a lot of slack.”

The Lady Eagles won 25-19, 25-23, 25-22.

“We’re getting to where a lot of people on the team can contribute,” he said.

In junior varsity action, the Lady Eagles won 25-14, 25-15.

Pleasant Home will play in East Brewton today against W.S. Neal.
