Opp pushes civic ‘pride’

The Opp City Council and Chamber of Commerce are asking Opp’s citizens to show their public “pride” by cleaning up the city as a part of this month’s “Project Pride.”

Complimentary drawstring trash bags are available at the Chamber for roadside litter collection in the month of October. In addition, several church groups, civic groups and other organizations will join in the effort to clean up Opp’s roads and neighborhoods.

The project is scheduled to coincide with Opp Fest at the end of the month.

“We’re always concerned about our city’s appearance,” said mayor pro-tem Mickey Crew, shortly after signing a “Project Pride” proclamation at Opp’s city council meeting Monday. “But it’s especially important that we make sure our city is looking its best for Opp Fest. That’s an event that brings a lot of people to town, and we want them to leave with a positive impression about Opp, and hopefully want to come back again.”
