KINSTON — Pleasant Home’s Tyler Barbaree had three touchdowns and 150 rushing yards to lead the Eagles to a 33-20 victory at Kinston on Friday evening.

C.J. Langley put the Eagles on the board early by returning an interception for a touchdown. Barbaree added a short touchdown run to put Pleasant Home up 13-0, but Kinston answered back to make it 13-6.

In the second quarter, Barbaree scored on a 2-yard run and the Eagles added a two-point conversion to go up 21-6. Kinston scored again to make it 21-14, and the Eagles had a chance to increase their lead before halftime but they were stopped on fourth-and-goal.

Pleasant Home’s Ethan King passed to Cory Sims on a 60-yard fade route in the third quarter, and Barbaree added a 6-yard run in the fourth quarter to make it 33-14 at the time.

King finished the game 7-for-11 for 107 yards and a touchdown.

Pleasant Home defensive coordinator David Kirkland said Kinston is an improved team.

“My hat’s off to Kinston,” he said. “Their new coach has really helped them improve and they’re so much better than they’ve been in recent years. They run an offense where you think you’ve got the back piled up, but then he squirts free and get a big gain. We were very happy to get this win tonight.”

Pleasant Home (2-5, 1-4 in Class 1A, Region 2) picked up its second win in its last three games after starting the year 0-4. The Eagles will host Providence Christian next Friday.
