The W.S. Neal Lady Eagles defeated Pleasant Home Thursday night, 3-1.

Pleasant Home lost 25-16, 27-29, 17-25, 21-25.

Leading early by as many as eight points, Pleasant Home took care of the first game win.

In game two, it was a different story. Pleasant Home and W.S. Neal were neck and neck throughout the latter part of the game. On errors and successful tips from players, W.S. Neal won its momentum back with a two-point win.

In the last game of the night, Pleasant Home brought it back close, trying to force a tiebreaker, but W.S. Neal took that chance away.

“I’m proud of our team,” Pleasant Home coach Jerry Davis said. “They are playing so much better.

“We aren’t playing in a fantasy world, we’re in the real world.”

Pleasant Home finished its regular season with a 6-10 record and will play in the Class 1A, Area 2 area tournament next Monday in Kinston. The first match starts at noon.

Because there are only two teams in their area, the Lady Eagles will also play in the Class 1A regional tournament next Saturday.

“They don’t quit,” Davis said. “They play hard and we’re going to get better.”

In junior varsity action Thursday night, Pleasant Home won 25-15, 25-22.

In other local volleyball action Thursday, Straughn defeated Luverne, 3-0. The Lady Tigers will host the Class 3A, Area 3 area tournament next Monday, starting at 3 p.m. where they will face the winner of the Luverne-Pike County game.

The Opp Lady Bobcats competed in a tri-match with Kinston and St. James in Kinston.

Opp lost both matches. The Lady Bobcats lost to St. James 10-25, 12-25, 10-25; and then to Kinston 15-25, 17-25.

Opp finishes its regular season with a 5-17 record and will play in the Class 4A, Area 2 area tournament in Montgomery at St. James next Tuesday at 4 p.m.

St. James will play Brewbaker Tech and Opp will play Ashford. The finals will be at 5:30 p.m.

Andalusia will host its area tournament starting on Tuesday at 4 p.m., when the Lady Bulldogs will play the winner of the Thomasville-Clarke County game.
