It could only take two more wins for Pleasant Home to put the Eagles back in the mix for a playoff spot this season.

Pleasant Home has made the playoffs twice before, most recently in 2006.

“Right now, we’re looking at an outside shot — if we win this week and next week, we’ll be tied for fourth in the region,” Pleasant Home coach Robert Bradford said. “It’ll be us, Providence Christian and Ariton. That’s if everything goes like we think.”

This week, Pleasant Home (2-5, 1-4 in Class 1A, Region 2) will host Providence Christian to continue region play.

“It could work in a situation where all of us are tied three or four in the region and then we’ll be in the tiebreaker,” Bradford said. “I don’t know much about all of that, but I’ll be happy to be in the running.”

Last week, the Eagles picked up their first region win of the season, defeating Kinston 33-20.

Pleasant Home’s Tyler Barbaree helped lead his team to the win, picking up three touchdowns and 150 rushing yards on the night.

“The kids were kind of surprised that we had as much success as we did last week,” Bradford said. “We had several players that stepped up. Tyler Barbaree was just unbelievable last week.”

Bradford said his team’s quarterback had a good night as well.

“Ethan King threw for 100 yards in a night, especially following a week of preparation where we were concerned about defense,” he said. “Kinston does just a great job on offense. Really, it makes us feel good going into Friday night’s game against Providence. Providence is very similar to Ariton in their style. They’re going to run right at us.”

Bradford said Providence Christian (4-3, 3-2) runs a “rugby” type offense.

“They’re running what is called a double wing offense,” he said. “Their whole offensive line looks like a wad in there. It kind of resembles rugby football. There is some deception in there, too.

“Our kids have been really working hard this week to learn how to stop it and where the ball is going,” he said.

Bradford said injured running back Frank Senn (knee) is “trying to get back on the field.”

“He’s working really hard trying to get back,” Bradford said.

Kickoff in Pleasant Home is at 7 p.m.
