The W. Robert Brown Outstanding Graduate Award committee has selected two Andalusia High School graduates who will be recognized today at 2:30 p.m. at a presentation to be held in Andalusia’s city hall.

Local educator Dr. Jim Krudop and NBA star Robert Horry will both receive the award this year.

Krudop is a vice president of Lurleen B. Wallace Community College, who was described by his nominators as a person “constantly looking for ways to give back to the Andalusia community.”

He is a former city councilman, has served as president of Rotary and the local Chamber of Commerce, and has a leadership role in the Andalusia Health Services board, which has awarded more than $1.1 million in scholarships. He also has given his time to United Fund, the American Cancer Society, local PTOs, and other charitable organizations. He is an active member of First Baptist Church.

Krudop earned his undergraduate degree from Auburn University, and earned a master of arts degree in speech communication and a Ph.D. in educational administration from the University of Alabama.

Horry has played 16 seasons in the NBA and has seven championships. Before beginning his professional career, he played at the University of Alabama.

The outstanding graduate award was established by the Class of 1948 Foundation to recognize graduates of Andalusia High School and Woodson High School who have distinguished themselves by service to the nation, state, Armed Forces or charitable organizations or by outstanding achievements in professional endeavors.

Krudop will be present to receive his award. Organizers said they learned Thursday afternoon Horry would not be able to attend.
