Police have arrested a man they believe is responsible for assaulting and robbing an 84-year-old Andalusia woman after breaking into her Eighth Avenue home during last week’s homecoming parade.

Andalusia Police Department Investigator Tim Stallworth said the man, identified as 21-year-old Christopher Wilson, was apparently waiting for the homeowner when she returned from town.

“When she walked in, he was in there,” Stallworth said. “He surprised her from behind, pushed her down and hit her and demanded money from her.”

Stallworth said when the victim explained to Wilson that she didn’t have any money, he left.

“He was witnessed fleeing by several longtime residents of the area,” he said.

Luckily, the woman did not suffer any broken bones or permanent injuries, he said.

Wilson, who is charged with robbery, burglary, assault and criminal mischief, was taken into custody Friday evening and booked into the county jail under a $435,000 bond.

“For those in the future who feel they want to harm the elderly of our fair city, think again,” Stallworth said. “Acts of this nature are unacceptable and will be dealt with severely, as I think Mr. Wilson’s bond reflects.”
