Dr. Raymond Hicks

Dr. Raymond D. Hicks, 84, of Andalusia, died Thurs., Nov. 5, 2009, in an Andalusia nursing facility.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m., Sat., Nov. 7, at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church in the Straughn community. The Rev. Fred Funches officiated. Eulogies were given by his son, Donald Hicks; his daughter, Cindi Rider Cross; and a grandson, Lane Rider. Interment followed in the Mt. Zion Methodist Church cemetery with military honors. Keahey Funeral Home directed.
Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Elizabeth Hixon “Speaky” Hicks of Andalusia; one son, Donald Hicks of Los Angeles, Calif.; one daughter, Cynthia Rider “Cindi” Cross of Andalusia; a sister, Sybil Blackwell of Rockledge, Fla.; grandchildren, Gray Rider, Micah Rider, Lane Rider, Caitlin Rider, Luke Rider and Noah Rider; great-grandchildren, Emily Rider, Rachel Rider and Aubrey Rider; as well as his former son-in-law, Tom Rider, and an aunt, Ruth Schnering, both of Andalusia.

Dr. Hicks was a research scientist with Eli Lilly and Company for many years until he retired to Andalusia. He was a Naval veteran and a graduate of Auburn University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in agriculture and a Ph.D. from the University of Missouri-Columbia in Agronomy.
