Andalusia opened its 2009-10 season on the road with a close 50-47 win over Class 5A Carroll-Ozark on Monday night.

The Bulldogs got out to an early 11-7 lead after the first quarter and led 20-14 at halftime.

“We, ourselves, made it a close game,” Andalusia coach Richard Robertson said. “I don’t want to take anything away from Carroll. We made it a close game with our mistakes and inefficiency. We let them get up on us.”

Andalusia trailed by as many as seven points in the second half, but outscored Carroll 22-15 in the fourth quarter to win the game.

“I was proud of them for coming back,” Robertson said. “What our guys have to realize is that I’m not as concerned about winning as I’m concerned about our overall execution. I expect a better job and better effort.”

Robertson said despite the close game, there were a couple positives from the game Monday night.

“We hustled and fought hard to come back,” he said.

Andalusia’s O’Brien Curry led in scoring with 22 points and was 4-for-6 in free throws; Jacard Townsend had 11 points and was 3-for-5 in free throws; and Quayshaun Denson had eight points.

For Carroll-Ozark, Andre Miles had 13 points and Sylvester Sikes had nine.

Andalusia will be on the road again Friday night when they face Enterprise. Tip-off is at 4:30 p.m. with the B-team.
