Red Level earned its first win of the season at the Flomaton Thanksgiving tournament Saturday, defeating the tournament host 51-45.

Last week, Red Level lost in its opener against W.S. Neal, 50-48, and Red Level coach Fred Kelley said it was good to get the win.

“We just had a good effort beating the host team down there,” Kelley said. “It’s always good to get a win on the road and the season.”

Red Level’s Trey Salter led in scoring with 17 points; James Feagin had 12 points and 13 rebounds; and Troy Nolen had 11 points and six rebounds.

The game remained close throughout the first half with Red Level taking a 14-13 lead after the first quarter. Flomaton then got on board and lead 26-24 at halftime.

The Tigers regrouped at the half and put up 14 points in the third and finished with 13 in the fourth.

“I think with the experience these kids got and with it being a close ballgame made the players realize that we had a chance at winning,” Kelley said. “We had a couple of big shots during the game. We were able to execute a little better.

“Right now, we’re just trying to build from the win and that was a big game for us beating Flomaton.”
