Gym provide ‘me’ time for busy mother of 2

Jeni Kyser is a 29-year-old mother of two and works as a housekeeper at Mizell Memorial Hospital.

In high school, she said she was very active – cheerleading and a host of other physical activities.

“Sports weren’t my thing, but I stayed active,” she said. “My weight was never an issue, but last year, I knew I needed to change my lifestyle. I wanted to lose weight, be healthy and have more energy.

“Working out does each of those for me,” she said. “And it absolutely works.”

Kyser said she travels to the Wellness Center four times a week and works out about 45 minutes to an hour each time.

“I tell my husband, I need ‘me’ time and I’m going to the gym,” she said. “It’s hard to balance with kids and a family, but you have to make time for yourself.”

At Opp’s Wellness Center there is a host of opportunities to do just that.

The 13,000-plus square foot building is outfitted with an indoor heated pool, an exercise/weight training area, complete with everything from treadmills to state-of-the-art cardio equipment; a physical therapy rehab area; an education center/multipurpose room equipped with a commercial kitchen; and a racquetball court and shower.

There is a one-time enrollment fee of $25 for an individual, $15 for a spouse and $5 per dependent. Monthly fees range from $35 for an individual for a basic gym membership; $15 per spouse and $8 per dependent. There are packages available for pool use only, racquetball only and a combination thereof. An all-inclusive membership is $65 per individual; $25 spouse, and $8 per dependent. A special discount is given to hospital employees and senior citizens.
