After letting his players enjoy Thursday and Friday to spend with their families last week during the holidays, Andalusia coach Richard Robertson called practice on Saturday to get ready for a busy week.

This week, the Bulldogs (3-1) will host Monroe County tonight, Pleasant Home on Thursday and Opp on Friday.

Robertson said this year’s Monroe County team is the “best” Monroe County team he has seen.

“They’re a very athletic team,” he said. “They’re real quick, score a lot of points and shoot the ball well.”

Robertson said he managed to watch Monroe County play this past weekend, where the team scored 82 points in one game and 60 in the other.

“They have good athletes, but we’re just trying to get better at what we’re doing,” Robertson said.

Robertson said the season is a long one, but he wants his team to be ready to compete early.

“We’ve got a lot of growing up to do,” he said. “We’ve got 89 days left in the basketball season. That’s a long time, but we want to be ready now.”

After the three home games this week, Andalusia will host its 43rd annual Christmas Invitational Tournament from Dec. 10-12.

Robertson said the Bulldogs need to accomplish one thing to get ready for the invitational.

“We want to get better every game,” Robertson said. “We’re glad to be home for three games. We played well away from home and I hope we can play well at home.”
