The Andalusia Bulldogs capitalized on their speed and size Thursday night, defeating Pleasant Home 83-43 in Andalusia.

The Bulldogs (5-1) held a 47-27 lead at halftime and increased their score to 66-30 at the end of the third quarter.

During the game, the Eagles (4-2) managed to find open spots on the perimeter, forcing the Bulldogs to apply pressure.

“They have spot shooters and we felt like we had to keep them on the move,” Andalusia coach Richard Robertson said. “We had them outsized, personnel-wise, and that was the difference.

“Pleasant Home is well-coached and they know the game well,” he said. “They’re going to be all right in their classification. We’re not out to embarrass anyone. What we’re doing is working on us.”

Three Andalusia players finished in double figures Thursday night.

Jacard Townsend had 20 points, Jamal Curry had 14 points and Victor Benson had 10.

For Pleasant Home, Blake Herman led his team in scoring with 13 points.

Pleasant Home coach Jerry Davis said his team did not match up well against Andalusia.

“It was just a good old fashioned butt-kicking,” Davis said about the game Thursday night. “They did a good job getting out to us. They’re so powerful.

“Andalusia does a really good job of taking the ball inside at you,” he said. “We have no way to stop them. They destroyed us on putbacks.”

Robertson said despite the big win, there is still some work that needs to be done on the team.

“We’ve got a lot of kinks in our armor that we’re trying to iron out,” Robertson said. “We’ve played six ball games now and we’re still making too many mistakes.”

Andalusia girls 63, Pleasant Home girls 23

The leading scorers for Andalusia were Alexis Horton with 15 points and Shi’Amber Townsend with 13.

Pleasant Home’s Taylor Godwin had nine points and Raven Woods had six.

Andalusia led throughout the whole game Thursday night, taking a 19-4 lead after the first quarter, 33-10 at halftime and 49-18 after the third quarter.
