At least one person was seriously injured Monday after a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of State Route 55 and U.S. Hwy. 29 South.

The accident, which occurred shortly after 2 p.m., south of Andalusia Elementary School, slowed traffic for more than a half hour as emergency personnel and law enforcement worked the accident scene.

Unknown, as of press time, were the identities of the drivers of the two vehicles — a late 1990s model Dodge Dakota and a newer model Chevrolet Z71 — and the status of their injuries. The circumstances leading up the accident were not immediately clear.

The injured party was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital by Advanced EMS.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Andalusia Police Department.

Law enforcement from the Covington County Sheriff’s Office and the Drug Task Force, as well as representatives from the Andalusia Fire Department, responded to the accident.
