Straughn held Paxton (Fla.) Saturday afternoon to a one-point lead at halftime, but could not pull out the win, falling 78-52.

The Tigers (1-2) started their season on the road in Pleasant Home, where they lost 45-40. On Friday night, Straughn coach Todd Reynolds earned his 100th public school varsity boys basketball win by defeating Florala, 51-44.

Right now, the Tigers are working to get ready for their Christmas Shootout, which starts on Thursday.

Straughn coach Todd Reynolds said Saturday’s game came down to play on one side of the ball.

“The story of the game was that Paxton had too much offense,” Reynolds said. “They made more threes than two pointers.”

Paxton was 15-for-21 at the free throw line.

“In the second half, our legs gave out,” Reynolds said. “They came out fired up in the fourth quarter.”

Straughn’s C.J. Christopher led with 29 points.

“The problem was that he didn’t have any help,” Reynolds said.
