Monday’s late afternoon traffic accident at the intersection of State Route 55 and U.S. Hwy. 29 claimed the life of an Andalusia man.

Andalusia’s assistant police chief Mike Bowlan said Tuesday 35-year-old Noel Shane Smith was pronounced dead upon arrival at Andalusia Regional Hospital.

Details surrounding the accident are still under investigation, but Bowlan said the accident occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m.

“It involved a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado (driven by Smith) traveling north and a 1995 Dodge traveling south,” Bowlan said. Additional details of the accident were not released.

“Right now, the thoughts and prayers of the Andalusia Police Department are with the family and friends of those involved in the accident,” he said.

The driver of the other vehicle was not identified, and the accident is still being investigated by the APD.
