Andalusia’s Jacard Townsend led with 19 points and seven rebounds Friday night to help his team defeat Enterprise, 69-47, in Andalusia.

The Bulldogs raced out to a 7-0 lead in the first quarter and held on to that lead in the opening quarter, scoring 15 points compared to Enterprise’s 12.

Andalusia continued to lead 32-24 at halftime, and 52-35 after three quarters.

“That was our doing (letting Enterprise stay close),” Andalusia coach Richard Robertson said. “We’re not good enough to help the opponent and help ourselves, too. I’ve been harping on that.

“Now, I’m going to sit the players that aren’t going to do it now and we’re going to run with ones that can run a plan and execute it.”

Robertson added that despite the win, the game was not handled the way it could have been.

“If we knew how to manage a ball game, we’d be all right,” Robertson said. “You’ve got a 30-point lead (at one point) and they’re running the game like we’re behind.

“The way you win is the way you lose,” he said. “It’s about the longer you have the basketball and take care of it — ball security — the clock is still running.”

Andalusia’s Quayshaun Denson also had a good night with 18 points. O’Brien Curry had 16.

Andalusia (9-1) closed out its rout over Enterprise in the fourth quarter, outscoring the visiting Wildcats, 17-12.

Andalusia was 17-of-25 at the free throw line Friday night.

The Bulldogs will play UMS-Wright tonight at 8. Both teams will compete for first and second place in the tournament because each has a 2-0 record.

Enterprise’s Rhett Harrellson led the Wildcats with 14 points.

Andalusia also bounced back from an earlier regular-season 54-51 loss to Enterprise on Nov. 20.

“I’m not taking anything away from Enterprise’s (earlier win over Andalusia), but we had that one won and gave it away,” Robertson said. “I told them in the pre-game meeting that the reason we haven’t done any better than we have is because we’ve been beating ourselves.”

Also Friday night, Opp defeated Florala, 47-30. Opp will play Enterprise tonight at 6:30. Florala will play Luverne tonight at 5.

In action Thursday night, Andalusia beat Florala, 65-29.
