Covington County Schools students have at least a one-day reprieve from semester exams.

Exams, which were scheduled to start today, might have to wait until after the Christmas break, interim superintendent Terry Holley said Tuesday afternoon, when continuing road problems forced him to cancel classes in the county school system again today.

Holley met with the county commission in its emergency meeting and heard engineer Darren Capps report that all county roads remained closed and the list of barricaded roads would top 60 when highway department workers completed a survey county roads Tuesday afternoon.

“I don’t feel comfortable letting buses on some of these roads,” Capps said.

Holley said the system transports approximately 2,000 of its 3,100 students.

Both Holley and Capps were hopeful today will be sunny and allow some dirt roads to dry and emergency repairs to begin. However, EMA director Susan Carpenter said another storm system is expected to move into the area Wednesday night.
