A Florala man was seriously injured Friday when his truck hydroplaned and struck a tree near Libertyville.

The driver, identified as 22-year-old Joseph Tyler Rasberry, was traveling southbound on Alabama Route 55 shortly after 10 a.m. when the accident occurred.

Eyewitnesses to the accident said Rasberry’s 2007 Chevrolet Silverado extended cab pickup appeared to hit a patch of water and “flew past them” before running off the road and hitting a tree.

The Jaws of Life, operated by the Andalusia Rescue Squad, was used to remove Rasberry from the vehicle.

Emergency medical personnel made an attempt to life flight Rasberry from the scene; however, the helicopter was unable to take off because of weather. Instead, Rasberry was transferred by ambulance to Andalusia Regional Hospital where he was later transported to another medical facility for treatment.

The accident is currently under investigation by the Alabama State Troopers.
