Mr. Alan Kevin Russell, 45, of Red Level, passed away after a very long battle with diabetic complications on Dec. 21, 2009, in a Montgomery hospital. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and woodworking. He was born on Dec. 14, 1964, in Opp, was a 1983 graduate of Opp High School and earned degrees in refrigeration and computer science from Douglas MacArthur State Technical College. He was also formerly an active member of the Opp Jaycees.
Funeral services were held Dec. 23, 2009, at the Mott Church of Christ north of Red Level with Wyatt Funeral Home directing. Brother Larry Turman officiated. Music included “He Washed My Eyes with Tears,” sung by Carolyn Wilson, Elvis Presley’s “Peace in the Valley,” a personal selection of Kevin’s and congregational singing of “Amazing Grace.”
Pallbearers were Jimmy Butler of Dozier, Sonny Cravey of Florala, Andy Gibson of Red Level, Ricky Gibson of Red Level, Alan Lindsey of Andalusia and Scotty Russell of Opp. Graveside services and burial followed in the Mott Cemetery.
He is survived by wife, Debbie (Foley) Russell of Red Level; parents, Max and Juanita Russell of Opp; siblings and in-laws, Jerry and Barbara Russell of Palatka, Fla., Edward and Susie Russell of Andalusia, Sherrie and Lane Cravey of Florala, and Michael Russell of Alexandria, Va.; 11 nephews and 10 nieces who brought him great happiness; and many special friends and neighbors who will miss him dearly.
Memorial contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or the American Diabetes Association.
