Pleasant Home fell to Baker (Fla.) 54-52 in the final game of the Alabama-Florida Shootout on Saturday night at Pleasant Home.

At the end of the first quarter, the Eagles were down 12-10 and managed 17 points in the second to lead 27-25 at halftime.

In the third quarter, the Gators added 11 points and Pleasant Home scored nine to even the game up at 36 points apiece.

Baker’s Jarrod Batson scored 11 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter to help his team outscore Pleasant Home, 18-16.

“We just missed a couple shots there and missed some opportunities,” Pleasant Home coach Jerry Davis said about his team’s play. “I thought we played extremely hard. We’ve got a lot of things we don’t understand at the moment, but we’re working at it. I know we lost (the tournament), but this was a heck of a ball game to play to get ready for area.”

In addition to Batson, Baker’s Chad Donley also had a good night, scoring 11 points and Christian Mainor had 10. The Gators were 14-of-23 from the free throw line.

Pleasant Home’s Blake Herman led with 20 points and Cory Sims had 13. The Eagles were 7-of-13 from the free throw line.

Pleasant Home will play in its first area game tonight in McKenzie.

Laurel Hill (Fla.) boys 55, Florala boys 38

Florala only scored seven points in the first half of play Saturday compared to Laurel Hill’s 21 to fall in its final game of the tournament.

“We didn’t have an offense (Saturday night),” Florala coach Brad Garner said.

Laurel Hill outscored Florala 18-7 in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Florala bounced back and scored 24 points compared to Laurel Hill’s 16.

Florala will travel to Kinston to play in its first area game tonight.

Pleasant Home girls 27

The Lady Eagles led 15-14 at halftime over Baker, but could not hold on to their lead in the third quarter.

The Lady Gators outscored Pleasant Home 11-6 in the third and 15-6 in the fourth to pick up the 13-point win.

Pleasant Home coach Kelley Garner said the team is “struggling offensively.”

“It’s been a strange season,” she said. “We lost Raven Woods two weeks ago and we’ve been out of sync. We can’t get anything going offensively.

“(Saturday night) we were in the game and Gina (Davis) went down with a possible knee injury,” she said. “So, we’re battling adversity right now. We have a lot of work to do.”

Pleasant Home’s Brentin Fuller led with eight points.

Baker’s Haley Wagner led with 10 points.

In earlier girls action on Saturday, the Florala Lady Wildcats lost to Laurel Hill, 60-48.
