Texting while driving ban passes House committee

MONTGOMERY (AP) — Alabama Legislature committees approved several bills on Wednesday. Most of those bills will now go to either the House or Senate for a full vote later in the session.

Some of the bills approved in committee were:

The House Public Safety Committee approved a bill that would ban drivers from sending or writing text messages while operating a vehicle on a public road. Goes to House.

The House Education Policy Committee approved a bill that would only allow exceptions for Jr. ROTC and band to a state policy requiring students to take physical education in grades K-8. Goes to House.

The House Constitution and Elections Committee approved a bill banning the candidates from transferring campaign donations from one political action committee to another. Also approved a bill expanding the ways overseas voters, including military personnel, can receive and submit absentee ballots. Go to House.
