Red Level coach Fred Kelley said he was able to play a lot of players Monday night in a 65-30 rout over Florala in Red Level.

In addition to the bench players, O.J. McGee was able to contribute as well. McGee has been injured since his team’s annual Christmas tournament, having suffered a broken arm.

“It was good to see (McGee) back out on the floor,” Kelley said. “That gave us a boost.”

McGee only managed six points Monday night, but Kelley said this week is a “big” one for his team.

“It’s a huge week for us,” he said. “We’ve got Straughn on Thursday and McKenzie on Friday and that will end our regular season before the area tournament.”

The Tigers (12-11) led the Wildcats 16-7 after the first quarter and then held a 19-point 34-15 lead at halftime.

At the end of the third quarter, Red Level held onto its lead adding 16 points compared to Florala’s seven points.

Trey Salter led Red Level with 14 points and Troy Nolen added 12 points.

Florala’s Erik Vega had 14 points.

“Red Level played a heck of a ball game,” Florala coach Brad Garner said. “We did not have anything go right for us. For whatever reason, we had a rough night.

“Red Level has a good basketball team,” he said. “I’d like to think we’re not that much worse than they are.”

Garner said that the team will put Monday night’s contest behind them and get ready for the rest of the week.

Florala will play host to Opp Thursday night and will travel to play Straughn on Friday.

“We’re still playing on the belief that we can win some games,” Garner said. “We haven’t folded our tents. We hope we can provide them with a challenge and get out there and compete. We feel like we have a chance to win the ball game if we can do that.”

The Wildcats have played Opp two times already this season.

Garner said the team has gotten better despite a losing record this season.

“We think we’ve improved as the season has gone along,” Garner said. “Playing all of these three games will be a benefit for us heading into the area tournament next week.”
