Police are still searching for the man responsible for Sunday’s shooting of an Andalusia man.

Andalusia Police Chief Wilbur Williams said Wednesday, the victim, an unidentified 76-year-old man, was recovering “nicely” after being shot in the upper arm sometime around midnight Sunday/early Monday morning.

Details remain sketchy about what led up to the night’s “knock and rob” when the elderly man answered a knock on the front door of his Simmons Street home and was greeted by a “younger black male,” a gun and a demand for money.

Previously Williams had said, the male, who was described as between the ages of 17 and 19, forced his way into the home and “for whatever reason – whether he was feeling threatened or was trying to intimidate the victim – fired one small caliber round, striking the victim in the arm.”

The victim was transported to Andalusia Regional Hospital where he was taken into surgery to repair a shattered bone in his upper arm.

Williams said investigators have spent the days following the shooting “picking up a few things and developing leads.”

“We’re still checking on all of the information, going over things with the victim, reconstructing his day, but as of right now, there’s still no identity of the suspect,” he said. “Luckily the victim is okay. There doesn’t seem to be any long lasting issues with his injury.”
