It’s that time the of year when Meredith’s Miracles “Rolls” out the “Cups” in an attempt to make sure everyone gets a “Kiss” on Valentine’s Day, as the group holds its annual Sundae and Sweet Shoppe fundraiser.

This year’s sundae selections include Hershey Kisses, Reese Cups, Tootsie Rolls, bubble gum, peppermint and cinnamon, and sugar-free hard candy selections are available upon request, said Kiley Spears, event organizer.

“We’re going to have to do things a little different this year because Valentine’s Day falls on a Sunday,” Spears said. “But I think we’re up to the challenge, although we do need volunteers to help us make this a successful fundraiser.”

This year’s Sweet Shoppe will be located inside the Sunshine House on Stanley Avenue and will open Mon., Feb. 1, through Fri., Feb. 12, from 9 to 5, and closed on Sundays.

“We’re hoping to be able to build and see 500 sundaes this year,” Spears said. “We want people to notice that we have moved from our location on the Square to the Sunshine House. We wouldn’t want someone to do without.”

In addition to the candy sundaes, the Shoppe will feature Chrissie Schubert cookies, plush animals and gift items.

“We call this our build-a basket option,” she said. “We did it last year and it was very popular.”

Cost is $15 per sundae; $20 with a balloon. Basket costs depend on contents.

Spears said for a small fee, deliveries will be made to local schools on Thurs., Feb. 11, and businesses on that Thursday and Friday. There will be no home deliveries.

“I encourage everyone to come to the Shoppe soon because last year, towards the end, it was slim pickings,” she said. “We sold out fast.”

This will be the fifth straight year of sundae sales for the charity created in honor of Meredith McGlamory, who passed away from a form of childhood cancer in 2003. Meredith is Simpson’s granddaughter and the daughter of Janna and Russell McGlamory.

The charity assists parents who have to leave the area to get specialty medical care for their children. Meredith’s Miracles helps with non-medical related expenses, such as gas, lodging and food, for families within a 60-mile radius of Andalusia.
