Local law enforcement agencies were awarded more than $32,000 in equipment as part of a U.S. Department of Homeland Security grant.

Susan Carpenter, the county’s emergency management agency director, said eight agencies in the county received items ranging from in-car laptops and handheld radios to video security systems for its office.

Receiving in-car laps were: the Covington County Sheriff’s Office and police departments in Gantt, River Falls, Florala, Opp and Lockhart.

Both Florala and Opp police departments also received handheld radios. Gantt and Red Level police departments received video security systems, and River Falls police department received an in-car video system.

Carpenter said she expects to know by June if the county will receive additional funding this year.
