The Florala Historical Society, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has applied for a bingo permit, Florala Mayor Robert Williamson annouced Monday morning.

The Florala Historial Society has entered a development agreement with a developer in Gulf Shores, who is associated with a group with gaming interests in 27 states.

The developers propose to build an entertainment complex, including a full-service restaurant, sandwich shop, retail, entertainment venue and hotel.

Conservative estimates are the facility would employ as many as 1,500 people, the mayor said.

The Historical Society proposed to return an estimated $10 million to a number of beneficiaries in the county.
