5,000 reasons to scream

More than 50 people braved the freezing waters of Florala’s Lake Jackson Saturday, raising $5,000 for 17-year-old Caitlin Rhodes, this year’s Cancer Freeze recipient. Rhodes, a student at Straughn High School, is battling glioma – a form of brain cancer. Organizer Caleb Davidson said every cent of the day’s proceeds would go to benefit Rhodes in her fight against cancer. “It was a good day, a good turnout especially considering the weather we had,” Davidson said of the 48-degree water temperatures and chilling winds. “We can’t thank everyone enough who helped make this year a fantastic event.” Above, Haileigh Young, Layce Miller and Regina McMillan enjoy a ride in an intertube.
