The fourth annual Cancer Freeze was held Sat., Feb. 6, 2010, at Florala’s Lake Jackson. Despite the fact that the wind was ever present and the sun was not, the event was again a success. Cancer Freeze has become an annual happening, and I find myself more and more proud to be a part of Florala, as well as Covington County. The tremendous amount of love and support shown for Caitie Rhodes and her family this past Saturday was truly a remarkable thing to see. Cancer Freeze is not about any one person; it is about a community coming together for a common goal. That goal is everyone working together to help make someone’s day a little brighter.

I believe that our wonderful community reached our goal on Saturday and helped bring out Caitie’s beautiful smile. Cancer Freeze will be able to present Rhodes with $5,000 to help with medical, travel and lodging expenses during her frequent trips to Birmingham for treatment.

This could not have been possible without the help and dedication of numerous people and organizations. I will attempt to give credit to those who made Cancer Freeze such a success: Spacewalk of Andalusia, Carolina Millworks, Marvin’s of Andalusia, Samson Rescue, Florala Health and Rehab, L&S Cost Plus, Piggly Wiggly of Florala, Huddle House of Florala, Kelly Young and Mandy Alford of Kelly Young Photography (soon to be LOLAK’S), Guardian Angel Christian Academy, WKNI, Heath Harrison of Program 23, WAAO, The Florala News, The Andalusia Star-News, The Opp News, Joe Drakkar, Alabama State Parks Division, Kelly Flowers, Jerry and Martha Morgan, Greg Hathaway, Kevin Bryan, Greg Taylor, Preston Weaver, all sponsors and merchants who donated goods and services and the many volunteers who helped before, during and after the event.
