On Saturday night, the Red Level Tigers will be trying for a seventh trip to Mobile as they face Millry in the Class 2A South Sub-Regional tournament in Red Level.

The Tigers (16-11) defeated Mobile Christian Monday night in the Class 2A, Area 1 championship game 56-47.

Red Level coach Fred Kelley said the game tonight will provide a good opportunity for his team to go a little bit further.

“It’s a big game,” he said. “When you look back at it you can say that we’ve done everything to get to this point. We won the coin toss (to host the area tournament) and now we have the chance to go a little farther. Some of these guys get a chance to experience the regional tournament with 16 other teams.

“From there on in, we just need to have a couple of breaks, and you can find yourself playing for a state title.”

Kelley said one thing he has been reiterating to his players, this week, is that they can “accomplish anything.”

“I’ve been preaching to these kids that anything is possible once we set our minds to it,” Kelley said. “If we work hard and control the things we can control — the things we can’t control, we don’t worry about it. We can control hard work, and we can control doing what we’re supposed to do.”

Kelley said Millry (14-8) is a good basketball team that is well-coached and is a good “match” with his team.

“They’ve got a good quality basketball team,” he said. “We need to play a complete ball game. We’re going to have to step it up to be able to advance to the South Regional tournament.

“I’m just hoping that being at home it will give us a little momentum to establish momentum and not get caught up in what they want to do,” he said. “The kids are excited and the school is excited. Hopefully we can play well and come out with a win and represent Covington County well in Mobile.”

Tip off in Red Level is at 6.
