Mayor Earl Johnson said late Friday night he plans to re-open roads inside the city at 7 a.m. today.

The roads were closed at 2 to all except emergency workers, health care workers and the media, after some of yesterday’s snow got icy.

“We encourage people to be extremely careful,” Johnson said. “We expect there will still be some slippery conditions early Saturday.”

Johnson said overall, local residents were very fortunate in Friday’s snowstorm.

“We had a few power outages with some limbs down, but nothing very serious,” he said. “There were some accidents, but they were mostly cars in ditches.”

County roads were closed at 12 a.m. Friday and remained closed Friday night. They are expected to reopen as Friday’s snow melts.
