Three Notch Market set for May

The Andalusia Junior Women’s Club is launching a new arts and crafts fair coupled with a 5K and a kids’ fun run on May 1.

AJWC has been working on the Three Notch Market since the fall, said Amy Dugger. The event will be held at the Farmer’s Market, located on Tisdale Street.

“We were initially going to have it in spring 2011, but we decided to go ahead because of the Year of Small Towns,” she said.

The Alabama Department of Tourism and Travel has encouraged Alabama towns to schedule special events in 2010, which hit has dubbed “the Year of Downtowns and Small Towns.”

Dugger said the AJWC’s goal is to showcase local talent and vendors.

Applications can be picked up at Mary Ann’s on the Square and the Andalusia Area Chamber of Commerce.

There will be a $100 booth fee and a $25 jury fee. Applications postmarked by March 15 will receive verification of application. If postmarked after March 15, there will be a late fee of $25.

Those interested in applying should send the application along with a photo CD with three images of the art that will be on display during the market.

Dugger said the group hopes this will become an annual event and will eventually move to the court square.

“No one was doing this, so we thought it was a great idea,” Dugger said. “Andalusia has tons of artists to be showcased in an open air market. Our vision is for this to end up on the square.”

“At 8 a.m., will also have a fun run and a 5K,” she said. “We will also be selling T-shirts especially for the event.”

“We want to thank the mayor for supporting us,” Dugger said. “Our community supports things like this and AJWC is committed to the betterment of the community.”
