“Love is a many-splendored thing.”

So sang Paula Sue Dubelt, accompanied by John Beasley, as she opened the February meeting of the Andalusia Study Club, a “wedding tea” staged for Valentine’s Day and featuring thoughts about how weddings have changed through the years.

The song, first made popular by a 1955 movie of the same title, was once used in weddings, but not often heard now, she said.

Wedding director Jerri Stroud, Town and Country owner Pat Thompson, and Beasley each talked about how weddings have changed.

Sherry Frazier, Jackie McDanal and Amy Spurlin hosted Wednesday’s meeting, held in the Dixon Room of the Andalusia Public Library. The hostesses served Italian Cream Cake, Red Velvet Cake, mints, toasted pecans, punch and tea. The tables were appointed with wedding decorations and framed wedding photos of club members. In keeping with the theme, each chair was festooned with white wedding tulle.
