After defeating UMS-Wright on Saturday night in the AHSAA Class 4A Sub-Regional tournament, Andalusia boys coach Richard Robertson said his team has something to play for right now.

“If we had anything to play for — we have it now,” he said.

Andalusia will travel to play in the South Regional tournament at the University of South Alabama’s Mitchell Center today at 1:30.

The Bulldogs (24-5) will be playing Dallas County High School and for the past few days, Robertson said he has been focused on one thing.

“I’m not worried about Dallas County,” he said Tuesday. “My job is Andalusia. If Andalusia does what its supposed to do, then we’ll be all right. If we don’t, then that’s another story.”

Robertson said all during this week, the team has been focusing on the most important aspects of the game.

“We need to play our game and do a good job on defense and take good care of the basketball,” he said. “That’s what we’ve got to do now.”

Robertson said Dallas County is “ going to be bigger than we are in most positions, but most people are.”

The Mitchell Center 90-foot basketball court could also be a factor.

“Everyone has to have the same advantage,” Robertson said. “When you play on a larger floor, it hurts you on your regular defensive system, but it ought to help you on your offense, too.”

In addition, Robertson said his team will play their own tempo.

“We’re going to play our regular tempo,” he said. “We’re going to have a plan if they try to up it on us. We’ve just got to do it.”
