Sex abuse cases hit docket
Six of the 25 cases on Monday’s criminal court docket for Circuit Judge Ashley McKathan are sex-abuse related.
Included on the docket was the case against former police officer and former sheriff candidate Kevin Owens, who was indicted Dec. 2007, on two counts of first-degree sexual abuse, first-degree rape, first-degree sodomy and intimidating a witness. It is alleged Owens engaged in sexual intercourse with a female by forcible compulsion and subjected a child less than 12 years old to sexual conduct – two separate incidents with two victims.
But District Attorney Greg Gambril said Thursday the case has been continued at the defense’s request.
