The Opp Bobcats defeated Headland on a chilly Thursday night, 11-8.

Opp held an 11-2 lead going into the sixth inning, but Headland put together a six-run scoring drive on errors from the Bobcats.

“They played hard,” Opp coach Michael Cassady said. “It was a tight ball game. Britt (Wilson) came in late in the game and did great getting the job done. With the bases loaded, he struck a guy out on a 3-and-2 curve ball. He’s done a great job with that.”

Josh Thompson earned the win for Opp on the mound pitching 5 innings.

Thompson also led in hitting going 4-for-5 from the plate.

Jantzen Flowers and Britt Wilson had two hits for the Bobcats.

Opp scored one run in the first inning, two in the second, two in the third, one in the fourth, three runs in the fifth and two in the sixth in the win.

Cassady said despite Thursday night’s win, his team has to come up with seven good innings in a game.

“We’ve got to put seven innings together,” he said. “We played a great five innings. We need to focus on finishing seven innings.

“If we can do that, then we’re going to be a tough team to play,” he said. “Right now, we’re not there — maybe in the next few games we’ll be there.”

The Bobcats will host a three-team round robin tournament today beginning at 10 a.m. at Merchants Field in the Opp Sports Complex.

Opp will play Florala at 10 a.m., Andalusia will play Florala at 12:30 p.m. and then Opp will play Andalusia at 3 p.m.
